Science, Math and Engineering Tutors

Rex C.
Rex is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Statistics from UC Davis. In 2011, he graduated from UC Davis with a BS in Rex, Davis tutor for high school and college statistics and mathMathematics and Statistics. He received Highest Honors in Mathematics and Honors in Statistics, as well as Departmental Citation in both majors. During his undergraduate career, he taught high level mathematics to high school students and tutored college students in Calculus, Statistics, and Probability Theory. He understands the need for a solid foundation if one wants to excel in a particular subject, and he makes sure every student fully understands the basics before moving on. In his free time, he likes to listen to music and read.

Una G.
Una is in her final year of pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Una, Daviis chemistry and biology tutorBiochemistry and Molecular Biology at UC Davis. Una tutors both chemistry and biology, and she particularly likes tutoring chemistry because she plans to become a high school chemistry teacher. During the '10-'11 academic year, Una worked in the UC Davis Student Academic Success Center, helping students in the chemistry 2 and 118 series. She also interns at Davis Senior and DaVinci High Schools, helping students in their chemistry courses. When she is not studying or tutoring, Una enjoys cooking, reading, and playing board games.

Marc N.
Drew Math Statistics Algebra Geometry TutorMarc is a graduate of Sacramento State University, earning a B.A. in Mathematics. He's now pursuing a master's degree in mathematics from his alma mater. In addition, he holds an A.S. in Computer Programming from American River College. He has gained considerable experience as a tutor and math teacher over the last three years, helping hundreds of students to succeed in math, statistics, and computer programming. He is passionate about teaching, and is currently pursuing a single-subject teaching credential in mathematics.

Miyabe
Miyabe is a third year Biochemistry and Molecular Miyabe math and science tutorBiology undergraduate at UC Davis. She was a member of the NCAA Women's Water Polo team and the team's Scholar Athlete in 2010. Miyabe became an Alfred J. Hoefer Memorial Scholar and earned the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-Academic Honors, earning the "Outstanding" category in 2009 and 2010. In high school, Miyabe received 5s on the AP (BC) Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, English Language and Composition, and English Literature exams. In her free time, Miyabe enjoys playing the piano and guitar.

Sumitra T.
Sumitra is a sophomore pursuing a double major in Sumitra, Davis tutor for high school and college chemistry and mathBiochemistry and Psychology at UC Davis. She is passionate about math, science, and music, and has consistently been named to the Dean’s Honors list in the College of Letters and Science. She tutors college and high school students in chemistry and math, and in high school volunteered to teach 8th and 9th graders English, math, and sciences in an underdeveloped village in India. Sumitra has previously worked as a research intern in both Psychology and Plant Biology labs. She enjoys music and currently heads a South Asian Acapella team. She also works closely with a non-profit organization, Visions, on the UC Davis campus.

Sean S.
Sean is a UCLA graduate in Psychobiology with a master's degree in SSean, Sacramento tutor in chemistry and biology Medical Sciences. He is a research assistant in UC Davis' Department of Neurology, and plans to start medical school in 2012. He started teaching and tutoring students in high school and at UCLA and during his master's program at Drexel University. He is a strong general chemistry and biology teacher, and scored a 35 on the MCAT (13 in physical sciences and 12 in biology sciences). During a year abroad in Japan, he also began working with English language students at an English school, working with student of all ages. He currently lives in Sacramento.

Gabriel F.
Gabe is currently a 3rd year Chemistry graduate student at UC Davis. He graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS in Chemistry in 2006; in 2007 he was an instructor for sophomore organic chemistry at San Francisco State University. Since the beginning of his PhD program at Davis, he been a TA in various organic chemistry lectures and lab classes (Chem 118A, B, and C; Chem 128B, 129B.) Gabe also has experience with MCAT prep, previously being a freelance organic chemistry question writer for Kaplan. When he is not teaching or doing research, Gabe enjoys watching movies, playing sports, and doing crosswords.

Kenny L.
Kenny is a senior at UC Davis, finishing his BS in mechanical engineering (2012). He received a 5 on the AP Calculus exam and graduated high school as valedictorian. He has also held a spot on the UC Davis College of Engineering Dean's list every quarter since starting his undergraduate studies at UC Davis. Physics is his passion and engineering is how he likes to apply it. When he is not studying, Kenny enjoys playing the guitar, listening to music, and tinkering with things, especially simple electronics.

Jessica C.
Jessica graduated from UC Davis in 2010 with a B.S. in Genetics, maintaining a 3.85 GPA. She has developed as a tutor with years of experience, starting in high school and progressing through college. After working with students in AP Calculus, high school chemistry, AP Chemistry, and with underdeveloped children through Woodland Early Head Start, Jessica focuses on the importance of understanding the subject content, the student’s study skills, and the subject's application to relevant experiences in motivating academic and life successes. She now tutors general chemistry, biology, calculus, and statistics.

English, Writing, and Social Science Tutors

Patrick E.
Patrick English Writing Grammar Literature Essay Tutor Patrick graduated from UC Santa Barbara with his B.A. in English in 2000. While completing his master’s from CSU Sacramento, Patrick began tutoring students in the Writing Center and fell in love with teaching writing. After accepting a Teaching Associate position in the English Department, he taught college composition and basic writing before graduating, moving on to teach composition, basic writing, and writing for international students at Sacramento City College. Patrick then returned to UC Santa Barbara as a doctoral student, completing his coursework in “language, literacy, and composition,” taking education and psychology courses while working on his research. He is currently available to work with Sacramento students, and studies John Steinbeck in his own time.

Anamarie U.
Anamarie English Writing Anthropology and Social Sciences TutorAnamarie is a UC Davis double major in Science and Technology Studies (STS) and Evolutionary Anthropology. Her on-going interest in the history of medicine and science lead her to STS and a previous internship at the National Institutes of Health National Library of Medicine. She is currently a Regents Scholar, received the James and Leta Fulmor Scholarship, and was a member of the Integrated Studies Honors Program as an entering college freshmen. She received a 5 in the English Literature exam and recently passed for UC Davis' University Writing Program. In her free time, she loves reading, watching Jeopardy, and working with animals.

Natalie P.
Natalie is currently a senior at UC Davis majoring in History (2012). Natalie's interest in history was born in the seventh grade, when she took World History for the first time and became fascinated by other cultures, countries, and eras. Natalie currently holds a 4.0 major GPA, has been on the UCD Dean's List every eligible quarter, and was awarded the Vivian Nelson-Brian Scholarship during the 2010-2011 school year. Natalie volunteered as a writing tutor in high school and has worked as a teachers' aid for the past two years; she loves helping students overcome their academic challenges. Natalie also works as a marketing consultant/social media writer. In general, she spends quite a bit of her life writing or helping others write! In her spare time, Natalie enjoys volunteering, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
